Who We Are and What We Do

The SYCSD Band Boosters consists of parents and other interested individuals who actively support and promote band programs in the Southern York County School District.

These programs include, but are not limited to marching, symphonic, and jazz bands as well as indoor drumline and indoor colorguard. While most of the Booster efforts are directed at the high school level, we also reach to the middle and elementary school levels.

We encourage all of our kids to be the best student musicians possible and strive to help each have a meaningful experience while participating in the Southern music programs. We also work to support the band director in all the goals of the band program.

The Boosters assist with projects to provide funds and/or donations which will enable the band to participate in activities outside of the normal school activities and beyond those the school might be able to fund. The Boosters also provide significant manpower to carry out a myriad of behind the scenes activities that help the band program function smoothly.

There is always a great need for help with all Booster functions and projects. Without sufficient volunteers and active participation, important goals may not be able to be accomplished. The involvement of every band family is important as we work together to enhance our students’ music program experience. The fund raising we do helps fund necessary supplies and activities that would not be available through the school budget.

Also, the bi-annual music department trip is a large expense for most students, and our fundraising is a great way to help students pay for the trip and, while at the same time benefiting the Booster general fund. While this trip may seem a long time in the future, students and families should begin planning and preparing now.

It may sound like a lot of work, but mostly it is a lot of fun. And, experience has taught us that the kids honestly appreciate seeing their parents supporting their hard work.
