Secretary’s Report:  Minutes from last meeting approved.

Treasurer’s Report:

§  Angela Mays reports that there is currently $12,038.86 in the general fund and $8,400.12 in student accounts.

§  The No Hassle fundraiser is going very well. Almost $3,000 has gone into student accounts already. Donette Yeilding leads this up—Tina thanks Donette for all her work on this ongoing fundraiser which has brought in  $6,850 so far this year. Donette received a note from a contributor thanking boosters for taking direct approach to fundraising.

§  We received $800 for the marching band’s performance at the York Fair. This was said to be “a good day’s work.”

§  Everything that’s been submitted has been paid for except for marching shoes.

§  Treasurer’s report approved, detailed report attached.

Director’s Report:

§   Please see marching schedule.

§  Sat, Sept. 19 will be the marching band’s first competition. Start times: 10:00 for percussion/guard, noon for all others. The band will practice and eat and head to the Red Land show which is sponsored by Cedar Cliff HS (AT Cedar Cliff)  Approx. return time 11pm. The boosters wish the band the best of luck!

§  New marching uniforms. We’ve had a new uniform designed,  Mr. Cashman has approved the design, he likes the new hat style.  Funding will be a challenge for the district, but the school and Mr. Cashman are supportive. There is a 3-year proposal: (attached)  This is an SHS item, not so much a district item.  Mr. Cashman offered $5,000 per year, asked for the rest from district. The district asked the boosters to contribute hat boxes and garment bags the first year.  We will meet with Mr. Cashman to discuss details. The plan is to build the uniforms up over 3 years until we have completely new uniforms.

§  New band cell phone policy: we’ve always asked kids to put phones away—now we’ll take them away and return them at the end of the performance or practice. Students can use cell phones to call parents, etc. within reason. We have now actually seen a student marching while texting!

§  Glen Rock Sesquicentennial— June 12, 2010. The marching band will march in this parade a week after graduation—we hope the seniors will march with us—this takes place of Memorial day parade. The question of how to accommodate alumni if we wear uniforms was brought up.….maybe all will wear polos, perhaps alumni can dress differently, this complicates uniform check-in……perhaps we’ll turn them in after championships. This is something we’ll have to think about.

§  Question:  10/17  PSATs ..will this interfere with the marching schedule?……We’ll probably leave around 2:30…Mr. Poole does not think this will be a conflict…..SAT 10/10---same type of schedule.

New Business

§  Uniforms:  Exec. board has decided to contribute approximately $1600 toward uniforms as requested by district.  All present in favor of contribution.

Old Business

§     Kudos to all who have been sewing and building props….Bethany, Donette, Tractor Bob and many others.  Sewing…Tues. and Thurs. 6-9 and Fri. (time to be determined).  SHS sewing room…  We NEED help! Please come—no sewing experience necessary. We need people to cut, pin, etc.

§  Pit Crew This crew takes equipment onto field for marching band performances and sets it up under direction of experts. We need a few more crew members. Please let Tina know if you would like to participate. This is a great way to get involved without a huge time commitment.

§  Props   This Sat. we’ll have cubes 1 and 2---show not ready for cube 3 yet.

§  We need help at practice on Thurs. with helmets.  They look really nice…black with green and silver. Paint will scratch so we’ll take special care of them…..the green is significant for this particular show. Many thanks to Bethany Meyer for all her work on the helmets!

§  Meals   We often provide meals to marchers……..we need volunteers who are not already serving as chaperones to help serve, clean up and possibly donate food. Do we want to ask for donations of desserts or just buy everything? Let’s ask for donations and see what happens……..we’d prefer the donations.    PLEASE LET US KNOW OF DIETARY RESTRICTIONS—an alternative will be provided. Note: Mr. Poole pointed out that it is not standard for boosters to feed kids…this is something nice we do for long days. He and the students really appreciate it.

§   Bulletin board closest to the outside door near the band room is the new Booster Board…lots of good info on the board.  Also see www.warriorbands.org

§  Band Night  Oct. 9    Start time will be 4:30 this year, we’ll try to finish up by  6:00 so boosters can get into the stadium in time to see pregame.  WE NEED A COMMITTEE  The students will have rehearsal until 4:30, then we will feed them.  Do we want face painting, games, etc?  Order forms for sandwiches will go out as well as game tix order forms.  Game tix are 100% profit that night.  Please plan to sell as many as you can. We need ideas for band night….please forward ideas to Donna Schriver at bdkms@verizon.net

LOOKING AHEAD

§   Battle of the Bands…..rock bands, student bands, bands that our kids and others play in outside of school. Tentative date 1/9/10  Brian Furio will be heading this up with help from the Silvas and hopefully many others. Thanks, Brian!

§  Basket Bingo…   February, exact date not set yet. Laurel Ruppert will be heading this up—thanks, Laurel!

§  March:  KIDA show at SHS   March 6, 2010    (Keystone Indoor Drill Association) Drum lines and indoor guards will compete.  We will need A LOT of help to pull this off….Michelle Spurlock will lead this project with help from Angela Mays and hopefully MANY others. Thank you Michelle and Angela!

§  April:  Jazzfest, 2010 April 10   Lynne Hood and Cheryl Yost  will chair this event again this year. This is not a fundraiser—this is a self-sustaining event, provides clinician for our band students, SHS and SMS.  WE NEED MANY VOLUNTEERS   We need someone to shadow us this year. If you are interested in learning more about Jazzfest or helping in any way, please contact Lynne Hood at lynne.hood@sycsd.org  (don’t forget the “e”!)

§   If you have a skill you can share with us……tickets, food, PR, etc, and could help in one small area across several events that would be great.

Mr. Poole again thanked everyone who has helped in any way on the props, uniforms, etc.  They look very professional and he recognizes the hours you’ve put in.

It was pointed out that the marching band is made up of a  great group of kids this year…no problems, parents commended for raising great kids!

NEXT MEETING: MONDAY, OCTOBER 5, 7:00pm  SHS band room, all band students and parents welcome and encouraged to attend.
