Secretary’s Report   Minutes from September meeting approved.

Treasurer’s Report   There is just under $6,000 in the general fund, plus approximately $1,600 in Disney deposits, and there is also about $6,000 in the student accounts. Detailed report attached.

Director’s Report   The first half of marching season is over. The show is done!  It progressed a little more slowly than last year’s show.  We are anxious to hear what the judges have to say about the drumming and dancing. It has been exciting to see all the students drumming and singing and dancing and enjoying it.  Thank you to all who have helped in any way with the props-they really took a lot of work this year.  Other bands are starting to notice us—our highest compliments come from our peers.

TAG day was fun.  Suggestion for the future:  add music, i.e. student musicians playing in front of Wal-Mart while we distribute tags and accept donations.

Band Night   The marching band will rehearse with the SMS students on Fri, 4:00-4:30, and then enjoy the tailgate.  Elementary band students will play with us in the stands for the first quarter of the game.

USSBA Championship tickets  Oct. 18    We are required to sell 71 tickets at $10 each.  The tickets will be available at band night, as will tickets for the Warwick competition.  Please encourage friends and family to come out and support us on the 18th at Hershey stadium.

Fundraising

§  TAG Day   recap  In general everyone seemed to agree that TAG day was a positive experience.  We showed a positive side of teenagers to the community.  Many thanks to both Tinas (Pelensky-Voltaggio and Cheek) and to Donette Yeilding for organizing this event.

§  We need to send thank you notes to the UPS store (for giving us a discount on copying) and Wal-Mart.

§  We have already received our first mail-in donation in the amount of $25.

§  We earned $92 on the bake sale—thank you to all who donated baked goods.

§  We collected $261.59 in donations at Wal-Mart and approximately $250-$300 in cash donations in the neighborhoods we covered. (Still being counted.)

§  Idea:  let’s distribute remaining tags at band night.  Bethany Meyer will seek permission.

§  Ideas for next year:

§  Whole band performs at Wal-Mart to kick off event.

§  Meet at several locations throughout the day to play music.

§  “TAG” each community the day after we perform in their parade.

§  Luminaries/Poinsettias/Pellman’s   Halloween is a good time to distribute flyers for these fundraisers.  The luminaries take some manpower to assemble. Many people like the Pellman’s cakes and pies for the holidays. Debbie Auberger   will check on the poinsettias and contact Kim Nace.  She suggests we offer several delivery dates, and that we create separate order forms for the different holiday fundraiser items, but distribute the forms together. Several people agreed.  Proposed delivery date @1 : Black Friday.

§  Candygrams   Proceeds from the candygrams offset the costs of feeding the band on competition days.  We encourage all parents to participate in the fun and easy fundraiser.  The kids really enjoy receiving their candygrams on those long competition days. They are available for purchase at many practices and game days.

§  Market Day  Next delivery date:  October 7.  Next order due:  October 29, delivery on 11/4.

§  No-hassle fundraiser  donations are still coming in. In fact, we received $780.00 last month. Please be reminded that there is NO DEADLINE for this fundraiser.  Students can send out their letters at any time.  This is a great way to build your student account. It is also a good way for out-of-town friends and family to contribute.

Band Night   We need help to set up the tables, sort sandwich orders, etc. as soon as people can get there—band night begins at 4:45.  It was suggested that section leaders and other band students be encouraged to greet the younger band students and get them involved in the games and activities.  Bonnie Homes will set up a table with items from Africa to sell—proceeds go to the mission.  We will play the DVD and have the scrap books available.  We will also sell raffle tickets for the basket.

Senior Night  There will be a reception after the game in the cafeteria for the seniors.  We will provide drinks and paper goods.  We have found that canned drinks and bottled water work best.  All band members and their families are invited to attend.  Parents of seniors:  we need their baby pictures.

Disney Trip   The student cost has been reduced by about $50.00!  We are only taking one bus, therefore we are unable to offer transportation to band families, however we will have a limited number of Disney tickets and hotel rooms to offer at group rates. A letter with details is forthcoming.  There will be a mandatory parent meeting to review trip details.

Cavalcade Championship:  November 8, Hershey Stadium

End-of-Season Marching Band Party    Sunday, Nov. 9 or Sunday, Nov. 16

Community Preview Show    Nov. 7, 7:00pm  The whole community is invited to enjoy the show and help us to prepare for the Cavalcade Championships.  The possibility of having the party on the same night will be looked into.  Mr. Poole  get the date on the athletic calendar.

Bingo   Summer bingo is not quite as successful as winter bingo.  It is possible that we will do another one in Feb. and then plan to keep it in the winter.  Ideas presented for other types of bingo:  Vera Bradley bags, Gas cards, 50/50 game.  Notes on winter bingo: we need inclement weather policy, we might have to use Shrewsbury Elementary because it’s listed on our current license.

Next meeting:  Mon. Nov. 3, 7pm, SHS band room.     All are welcome and encouraged to attend.
