- Warrior Chat Mr. Poole will be interviewed
and the interview will be aired on channel 99. He will mention the Steger
scholarship, the holiday fundraiser, the marching band’s recent first place
win, upcoming performances, and Mr. McGarvey’s new ideas for younger band
students. He will also point out all the different music ensembles our
music department has to offer.
- Scores for Calvalcade—the marching band is
currently in fourth place in our division. We’re in good shape. We’ve made
lots of improvements to the show. We are getting positive feedback from the
community. The ending of the show is currently being re-written. We have a
good shot to place in the top 3 in Hershey.

awards
There was some discussion
about the length of the day—Mr. Poole will talk to the assistant directors and
revise the schedule if possible. As it stands now, the boosters will provide a
bag lunch for the students and they will bring money to buy dinner at the
competition. The boosters will also provide a snack for the bus ride home.
- Wednesday’s practice Mr. Poole reported that
Wednesday’s practice would have to be cut short because JV football has the
field and we need lights. Two families volunteered to bring lights, Kim
Nace will bring a generator.
- We’ve heard a few comments about our Japanese “verbage.”
It was suggested that we ask Yuri, our Japanese exchange student, to
announce for us—at least the Japanese words. Pat Macomber will talk
to Yuri.
Fundraising
- Market Day—next deadline is 10/24 with delivery
on 10/30.
- Holiday Fundraisers Dates were suggested for
the sales of Pellman’s pies and cakes, poinsettias and luminaria: Start
date: 10/15, sell through 11/12 or 11/14, with pick-up on 12/1 and/or
12/2. Donette will run these dates by Mrs. Martin and get back to Lorna.
- We need a LOT of volunteers for pick-up day.
- We really need to push the holiday sales.
- The executive committee will decide on how to
split profits between the students and the general fund.
- Basket Bingo We really need to get this
rolling. We’re going to try to set it up for Sat. 1/26/08. It will
be the weekend before the Super Bowl this year so we can do it without
having to renew our license. Lorna Deibert will contact the New
Freedom Community Center to set up the date. Bethany Meyer
volunteered to help.
- No Hassle This fundraiser brought in
another $450.00 this month, $2400 to date. This seems to grow every
year—this has been the best year so far.
- Spirit Table Going very well—brought in
about $300.00 this week.
Old Business
- Web Site www.Warriorbands.org is up
and running! Brian Schriver is working hard on this. He needs
information. If you have anything you’d like to see included on the site
please email it to Brian. There is a link to his email address on the
site. Thank you Brian!
- Band Night We can sell tickets through
Tues. Donette Yeilding and Bethany Meyer will get the tickets from Chuck
Abbott. The tickets will be available for pick-up at the tailgate party.
Please bring folding tables if you have them. Pizza Hut fliers will be
distributed—please eat at Pizza Hut on Mon. Oct. 8—the band will receive a
20% donation.
- Steger Scholarship The Foundation needs some
information by 12/14/07. Bonny Lutter will help Donette Yeilding
gather the information. The Foundation will match certain fundraisers. If
they do match, we are required to send a representative to the Foundation
meetings for 1 year.
New Business
- Senior Night Chris Poole will provide a list
of seniors to Bethany Meyer. Sheryl Delp will work on
collection baby pictures of seniors.
- Jazz Fest Pat Macomber has already sent 46
letters inviting bands to our Jazz Fest, scheduled for Saturday,
April 5, 2008 at Shrewsbury Elementary School. Pat would like to devote
a significant amount of time discussing ticket prices, themes, tables,
volunteers, etc. at the next band boosters meeting. Please be thinking
about these things and bring your ideas. Lynne Hood will contact SMS
jazz band parents and invite them to the next meeting.
- End-of-marching-season party The party is
scheduled for Fri. Nov. 9, 9 p.m.-midnight at Springfield Bowling
Alley. Valerie Crone is checking into getting cakes donated.
Bethany Meyer will have the date changed on the school web site.
Chris Poole will start thinking about awards for students. We need door
prizes—everyone is asked to seek donations.
- Late arrival to school Chris Poole will ask
about a late arrival for band students on the day after championships— (Mon.
Nov. 12)-- it could be a late Sun. night in Hershey.
- Buttons Thank you to the Slattery family for
donating Samurai Warrior buttons. There was a discussion about
selling/sharing them. It was decided we will share them with the band
families.
