Director’s Report
- Thank you for your help with the concert. The
flowers, refreshments, etc. were very nice. The efforts of the boosters
make the concerts better.
- Potential concert: there may be a concert of small
ensembles on May 19 or May 23. Brass, woodwind and saxophone quartets will
participate. We will make this a bigger event next year.
- Trip: permission from the school board has been
granted for the trip to Disney in December.
Fundraising
- Bingo Debbie Auberger suggests we look into
getting a pavilion at Glen Rock Park and having an outdoor bingo. Some
people thought this was a great idea; others were concerned about the
weather factor. It was suggested that Sundays seem to get the most people.
July 13 and July 20 are the proposed dates. Bethany Meyer will check
into various venues over the next few days (New Freedom Park, Glen Rock Park
and New Freedom Community Center).
- Market Day orders due May 7, delivery date May
13
- York Revolution Game, June 12
- According to the survey results, we have decided
not to take a bus to the stadium. Players will meet at the band trailer
which will be parked on Arch St. (3rd base side of the
stadium) at 5:30 on June 12.
- All members of any SHS or SMS band (concert,
jazz, marching, etc.) and alumni are invited to perform the National
Anthem.
- Attire for participating musicians: white band
polo OR white polo or t-shirt OR any white shirt with any SHS or SMS or
Warrior logo, khaki shorts, sneakers (please no flip-flops).
- Tickets: $5.00 for participating musicians,
$10.00 for all others. Ticket order forms are due by May 16.
They can be downloaded at
www.warriorbands.org, or tickets can be ordered by calling Donna
Schriver @ 2354780. This is a fundraiser for the band—please invite
friends, family, neighbors, etc. and sell as many tickets as you can.
Mr. Poole will hold tickets for all musicians and give them out at the
gate.
- Concessions: we have had an excellent response
for concession volunteers. Thank you to all who have
volunteered—information will be sent vial email with details for you.
- Instruments: Mr. Poole will be in the band room
on June 12 @ 4:00. Please plan to be there if you need to have your
instrument transported in the trailer. He will need help loading and
unloading the trailer before and after the game.
- Mr. Lewis and Mr. McGarvey have asked about 6th
graders participating—it was decided to leave it as 7th grade
and above.
Old Business
- Kelly and Al Silva have both volunteered to
help.
- Jane Quinn is handling ticket sales.
- We need students to decorate.
- We can get to Grace United Methodist Church right
after school to start setting up. We need help with this!
- Meal: the youth group from the church will cook
and serve food; we will bring Pellman’s for dessert.
- We are charging $12 for the tickets; the youth
group wants to charge us $10. Keeping in mind that that we have to
cover the meal cost for band students and the costs of the awards,
Bethany Meyer will try to negotiate the price with the youth group.
- Ideas for next year: pot luck, ask Giant to donate
fried chicken.
- Doors open at 6, dinner at 6:30 followed by
awards.
- Bethany Meyer will ask Dr. Hensley if Elvis is
available that night. It was also suggested that we wait and invite
Elvis next year as all the kids who saw him last time will be graduated.
o
Theme: Kilimanjaro
o
Location: First week: field hockey field, second week: old
field hockey field.
o
Scaffolding: We need to meet very specific safety
standards. The scaffolding has been donated in the past. If it is not donated
it is unclear who pays for it.
o
Parent Preview Night The stadium has already been
reserved for Aug. 14
o
Volunteers: we need volunteers for uniform-fitting, shoe
fitting, picture day, meals, etc.
o
Hats All students will be required to wear hats, such as
baseball caps, to band camp, for their comfort and safety.
- Steger Scholarship There is currently
approximately $4,000 in the account. More donations are welcome. Donette
Yeilding suggests we design a plaque which will display the names of the
recipients each year. Donette will look into this.
- Trip
o
Mr. Poole is following up on Kennedy Space Center and the
lunch in Disney on Mon. Kathy Renzi will check into Disney food
vouchers.
o
Color Guard members will be encouraged to bring their
instruments and participate in the music workshop.
o
The details of the chaperone price are still being worked out.

accordingly. The parade starts at 1:00; students are invited back to the
Legion for food.
