Secretary’s Report:  February minutes approved.

Treasurer’s Report: Report approved, attached.

Director’s Report

§  Jordan Delp:  Jordan took it upon himself to write a letter to Mr. Abbott informing him that Jordan does not feel it is right that half of the students in the school don’t even know that the marching band won the Cavalcade of Bands Championships.  Mr. Abbott’s take is that it is not up to him, but up to the music department, to advertise the accomplishments of the band. Jordan feels the students in the school should be more connected to the band.

Ideas:

o    Send band member to morning announcements after competitions, show trophy.

o   Get the band out in the community:  do more parades, advertise parent preview night, Robin @ EMC would like to combine dancers with drum line for parades, the Lutheran Home welcomes performing groups.

§  Tuners   Mr. Poole has ordered 20 instrument tuners for $25/each, and is offering them to students for $10/each.  The tuner indicates whether an instrument, any instrument, is sharp or flat based on vibration. The students have been trying the tuners in class.  Mr. Poole would like for as many students as possible to have these very useful tools.

§  Memorial Day Parade:  May 26  line-up time 12:30pm

§  DCI Night Friday, March 28 in the band room.  This will be a fun social event for all band students. Bethany Meyer will bring the soda.

Awards Night   May 16 at Grace United Methodist Church. We’re working on getting a group to cook and serve so that our band parents can relax and enjoy the evening. We need a few parents to help with the planning of this event.

Marching Season Preview/ Parent Information:  can these be combined into one event?  Yes!  The event will be in the SHS band room on Tues, April 29 at 6:30. Please mark your calendars and plan to be there.

Band Trip  The proposed trip is a marching band only trip to Disney World, Orlando, FL  A sample itinerary is attached.  Proposed dates are Dec.26-31, 2008.  The marching band will march in a Disney parade and participate in a “You’re Instrumental Workshop,” which will give them an opportunity to work with a professional Disney musician and record Disney music. The trip will include several of the Disney Parks. Estimated cost per person for the trip is around $700.00. The boosters are comparing bus and airline costs.

It is possible that the symphonic band will take smaller day-trips on off years, such as Hershey Music in the Park, or a program through the Baltimore or Philadelphia Symphonies.
