Director’s Report:
§ April 21: Small ensemble concert with the orchestra, 7:30pm, SHS auditorium. This concert will be informal—more of a social atmosphere resembling the chamber music of the past.
§ Next year’s trip: The current thinking is that there will be a one-day trip for the entire music department next year, with each dept. doing their own trip the following year. This year was difficult for some families who have students traveling with both the band and the orchestra.
§ The new proposed marching band uniform prototype has been unveiled! The uniform is made of a new material; its lighter weight and machine washable. The jacked has silver and black sequins and it zips down the back. The hat has more of a square shape. It is black with silver trim, and it has a black plume with silver threads which sparkle in stadium lights. Mr. Cashman has agreed that we need new uniforms, he is just not exactly sure when we’ll get them. The proposal will be submitted to the school board soon.
Fundraising
Indoor Guard/Drumline There will be 2 shows this weekend, Red Land High School and Cumberland Valley. The championships for both groups will be held at Southwestern High School on the same day as district jazz band.
The scores are increasing—both shows look good.
Band Banquet May 15 WE NEED STUDENT INPUT FOR THIS EVENT!
We are considering a less formal atmosphere this year. Proposed ideas include: subs, open mike, tropical theme, keep it fun and very casual. Locations to be considered: lower level of Grace UM Church—there is a projection screen there and we wouldn’t have to set the room back up for church. Brian Furio stated that he likes the formality of our usual band banquet—he feels it provides a nice climax to the year.
Mr. Poole will discuss it with the seniors and get their input.
Executive Board Nominations The job descriptions have been put together. There hasn’t been enough time to submit a full slate of officers. The full slate will be presented next month.
A proposal was made to amend the by-laws, specifically articles II and III, to add new job descriptions. Donette Yeilding proposed the amendment, Brian Furio seconded. A vote will be conducted at the next meeting.
An executive board meeting will be called soon to create a new budget.
Regional Band We are very proud of Annette Miles, Julia Yeilding and Mike Pressel for be chosen for regional band. The concert was phenomenal!
