Treasurer’s Report   There is currently $3,240.00 in the general fund and  $9, 075.00 in the student accounts. We need to raise some funds. We would like to remind everybody to BUY MARKET DAY! This is an easy, ongoing fundraiser.

Secretary’s Report   Minutes from December 09 meeting approved with the following correction:  Date of Winter Concert is Jan. 27, NOT Jan. 26.

Director’s Report

§  The newyear is upon us and we are now heavily into indoor guard and indoor drum line. We’ve forged a good relationship with Friendship Elementary School, Mrs. Koontz, the principal, and the custodial staff there. All is going well with our indoor groups.

§   Battle of the Bands Sat. night—we are excited about the event. It promises to be a lot of fun, please come!

§  Pep Band starts next Mon. We have 27 members signed up, twice the size of last year. We’ll do 4 girls’ and 4 boys’ basketball games. There are no cheerleaders at girls’ games so we get to play more. We need a volunteer to help out with the games, just to be an adult presence and provide support. First event Mon, Jan.11, 6:00.  Report time is usually 6:45, game time 7:30. T-shirts have been ordered for everyone who signed up. We hope to keep the cost under $10. Members get a free hot dog and drink at half time. We are still looking for a student director for this group.

§  Jazz Band  is currently rehearsing Tues. and Thurs. afternoons until the winter concert is over, after which we will alter the schedule to accommodate athletes. Winter concert is Wed, Jan 27. Both groups, concert band and jazz band, have had limited practice time due to marching band, etc. There will be more time to learn more music before Spring Concert.

§  Drum Line show is called “Dystopia” —similar to Chaos Theory. There will be a parent meeting night for parents of drum line and indoor guard to discuss details.

§  Winter Concert   Jan 27, 2010   Parents of juniors and seniors are asked to bring snacks/desserts.

Battle of the Bands    Sat, Jan 9, 2010    We have 5 bands registered. Food has been organized but we need a volunteer to take charge of it that evening. Volunteer will receive list of food coming. Bethany Meyer’s name was suggested as an excellent candidate for this position. J

The green room will be the orchestra room. MC=Brian Furio.

Set-up will begin at 4:00, food scheduled to arrive at 5:00.

Judges are arranged. Votes will be taken at the door and applause will be gauged. Prizes will be awarded based on judging, applause-o-meter and votes.

KIDA Indoor Guard and Percussion Show   Sat. Feb. 6, 2010  10a.m.  After some discussion about canceling the show or forging ahead with a small show, it was decided that the show will go on regardless of low registration.  We have 8 total groups at this point, we are hoping for a few more. This being our first show, we hope to start small and build from it. Logistics are being worked out. This event will require many hands—please mark your calendar and plan to help if you can. It is also fun to watch! Please encourage your friends to come.

Basket/Bag Bingo  Jan. 31, 2010 We have all Longberger baskets and Vera Bradley bags. WE NEED SPONSORS! The baskets and the bags are expensive. Sponsorships can be shared between families, sections, or baskets and bags can be partially sponsored. We will recognize all sponsors and contributors regardless of the amount. Every little bit helps. Tina will send out a list of available baskets.  Baskets and bags also need to be filled so we need sponsors of all kinds.

We have 4 vendors:  Maureen’s Jewelry Designs, candles (Laurel Ruppert), a vendor who sells lotions and such, and scrapbooking (Carole Tice).

Tix= $12 in advance, $15 at the door.     20 games+ extra charge for special games.

If you can help in any way please contact Tina Pelensky at tpelensky@earthlink.net

In the event of snow pre-sold tickets will be refunded and the event will be rescheduled.

Jazz Fest April 10, 2010   This is coming together behind the scenes.  Committee members will be contacted soon for updates.

End-of-Year Banquet/ Awards Night  Fri, May 14, 2010   This is a fun end-of-year event. We are looking for a coordinator or two for this event. This has taken different forms over the years—can be a dinner, formal or informal, or just dessert………last year we had student bands perform.

Fundraising Idea:  “Spirit Cards” cost $1.00 to print; sell for $10.00  You get businesses to sponsor a discount for card holders, you sell the cards.

School District Budget will be quite different next year. We have been informed that no new instruments will be purchased next year, nor will new uniforms be purchased. There is a 5% across-the-board cut; this would affect equipment, sheet music, etc. This may require the Boosters to step up fundraising if we determine to further support the purchase of portions of the uniform ensemble beyond the agreed upon parka and possibly Shaker hat purchases.

NEW YORK CITY TRIP (May 21, 2010)  First payment of $25 is due Jan. 13.

PLEASE JOIN US FOR THE NEXT MEETING ON MON, FEB. 1, 2010 IN THE SHS BAND ROOM. STUDENTS AND PARENTS ARE INVITED AND ENCOURAGED TO ATTEND.
