Secretary’s Report: The
minutes from the December meeting were approved.
Treasurer’s Report:
There is approximately $6,500 in the general fund and $5,000 in the student
accounts. Detailed information is attached. Donna also created a “budget vs.
actual” spreadsheet for us this month, which is also attached.
The following question was
raised: Can extra money leftover from marching band be carried to indoor
guard/indoor drum line? It was decided that this would be an executive decision.
This would involve roughly $500. The guard is working on raising some money.
Donna reports that now
that the Disney trip is over she will be able to get back to work on our 5013c
status.
Director’s Report:
- Concert January 28
The band will rehearse on the day of their mid-term—the rehearsal
IS their mid-term.
- Grades A lot of
students are missing grades from missed sectionals. They can make up these
sectionals. They can come to the sectionals for any section—it does not have
to be their own.
- Trip It was
AWESOME!!! Mr. Poole has heard a lot of positive feedback from the
students. He would like to thank everyone who helped in any way. The trip
was well-planned and the band members were well-supervised and well-behaved.
This is a trip Mr. Poole would like to do again.

- Please remember that
baskets can be sponsored/filled by more than one family.

- Market Day the next

school newspaper.
- DVD will play in the lobby
before and after the winter concert.
- The pictures will be sent
to Mr. Quay to share with the middle school band students.
- A survey will be
distributed to the band students to get some feedback about the trip.
- We have already received a

good.
- DVD Donna Schriver is
collecting pictures; please send any pictures of the trip you’re willing to
share - CD in the red box or email.
Janice Eason is putting together a DVD. Please send/give her any video you
have of the trip. She can use your camera and cable, a mini DVD, or however
you are able to get it to her.
Indoor Guard/Drum line
- KIDA dues, tape fees and
championship program ad fees are due. This will total $90 for guard and $90
for drum line + $40 bond fee.
- Driver needed to pull
trailer. A parent can drive a district pick-up truck to pull the trailer.
Please contact Mr. Poole if
you can help. Tina Pelensky-Voltaggio, Kim Nace and Donna Schriver all
indicated that they might be able to help with the driving.
- We need to transport the
guard floor and cart to Friendship Elementary on Sat.
Jazz Fest April 4, 2009
- Sudbrook Middle School may
be interested in coming again.
- Brian Furio will
contact Jeff Stabley at York College to see if they might be interested in
joining us. They have not responded yet.
- Brian Furio has
also offered to contact the coffee service provider at York College to
inquire about options, prices, etc.
- Bonny Lutter has
volunteered to take care of ad sales and the art auction. We need a
volunteer –ideally a parent of a younger student—to shadow Bonny this year.
Bonny will also contact Comcast and the local newspapers to advertise.
- Tickets Lynn Eason
has volunteered to work at the ticket table.
- Kim Nace and Tina
Pelensky-Voltaggio have volunteered to help with tickets and theme
decorations. Kim has also volunteered to help with server training,
t-shirts, etc.
- Clinician Mr.
Poole is working on getting a clinician. It has been suggested that we ask
the clinician to do an informal concert on Fri. evening, 4/3/09, for the SHS
and SMS band students. This idea was very well received.
- Food Brian Furio
brought up the subject of offering food other than desserts. This idea will
be discussed with the Jazz Fest committee.
- THANK YOU to all who
have volunteered so far. We really appreciate your efforts. HOWEVER,
we still need volunteers! We especially need parents of middle
school jazz band students. If you are able to help in any way, please
contact Lynne Hood.
Winter Concert January 28
Juniors and seniors
will be asked to donate cookies and snacks, the underclassmen will be asked to
do so for the Spring concert. Donna Schriver will send an email to all
juniors and seniors to remind them, and Mr. Poole will remind them in
class several times.
Nominating Committee
We need a few parents to
make a few phone calls to see which committee members will stay for another year
and which positions we need to fill. Please contact
Cheryl Yost if you can help.
Please plan to join us for our
next meeting on Monday, February 2 @ 7pm in the SHS band room. All
are welcome. We would like to extend a special invitation to SHS and SMS band
students, and parents of SMS band students. Students: we are here for you and
we value your input! SMS parents: you are the future of the band boosters!
