FAQ: “Why do boosters conduct
fundraisers?”
Basically, the
boosters offer fundraisers for two reasons: 1. to provide band
members opportunities to accumulate money in a student account
to offset personal expenses associated with participating in
band activities, and 2. to accrue funds to enable the boosters
to provide materials and services to support the activities of
the band program.
The boosters offer a variety
of fundraisers in which band members and their families can
participate. Band members and families may choose which
fundraisers best suit their needs or comfort levels. While the
boosters have yet to follow the trend of requiring band members
to meet a minimum level of fundraising, as some school
associated groups are doing, we do encourage band members and
families to participate in at least one individual sales
fundraiser and one general group fundraising event a year.
It is booster policy to
split the profit generated from individual sales fundraisers
50-50, with half deposited into a student account and half going
to the booster general fund.
The booster general fund is
used to provide money for some supplies or expenses not covered
by the music department school budget. We also provide things
like meals or snacks prior to competitions, scholarships for
leadership camp, a professional musician for jazz clinics, and
rewards and recognition; just to name a few.
If you have any questions
about fundraisers, please speak to any of the booster officers. |
